Sizing Things Up

Clothing

Measurements given are taken externally with the garment laid flat. All items are measured twice for accuracy, but please bear in mind all measurements (although as accurate as possible) must be said to be approximate.

BUST/CHEST measurement is taken underarm to underarm and then doubled. PLEASE remember that the bust measurement given here is not the same as your bra band size, unless you are an AA cup. You can get a rough idea of your chest measurement by taking your band size and adding an inch per ´cup´. (i.e. Band size is 32", add 1" for an A cup giving a chest measurement of 33". You would add 2" for a B cup, 3" for a C cup, 4" for a D cup, 5" for a DD cup and so on).

WAIST is side seam to side seam then doubled, generally at the natural waist.

HIPS are measured approx 8" below the natural waist, side seam to side seam and then doubled.

LENGTH is measured straight down from the shoulder (or waist, if it´s a skirt) seam to the bottom hem.

To be sure of a good fit, it´s an idea to measure something similar of your own that you know fits you well, and compare measurements. Remember the size given is the garment size so should not be identical to your body measurements - ideally you need 1-2" of breathing space at least! If you are unsure whether or not an item would be suitable, I´m happy to help you decide so feel free to contact me with your queries.
