When I looked up Nola Gowns (aside from the companies initial registration with Companies House in June 1944) the majority of results returned where in reference to pauline Prescott, as she had purchased her wedding dress from them in 1961. A satin cocktail dress, it cost £60. And with the average salaryat just over £1000 per annum, that´s heading towards a months wages! So I think this would have been a ´special occasion´ gown in it´s day, and doesn´t appear to have been worn more than once.

It´s quite column like at the front, with a flat panel extending down from the natural waist for a streamlined look - and of course to accentuate the fabulous rear. The bodice has sculptural seaming to the rear, and an amazing gathered bustle detail trimmed with red bows to match the straps. Gorgeous painted effect sprays of abstract carnations.
(forgive me if you think they´re something else!)

Bodice is boned and fully lined, fastens with a side metal zipper. The hem is machined but unfinished. I actually wonder if this was ordered and not worn - as usually you would expect to see a dress adjusted to fit, and hemmed with bias tape. Could be worn as is, or hemmed to suit.

Label: Nola Gowns of Chester

Fabric: Cotton

Measures: Bust 36 including darts (best on 32/44 C or D cup), waist 28", hips free (44"), and overall length from shoulder to hem 58". Waist to hem is approximately 41".

Condition; Excellent. There is a spot on one shoulder strap that looks to be from a hanger - will add photo shortly as I only noticed it when I was giving it a last once over. Otherwise it appears unworn with no sign of use to underarms or hem that you´d normally expect! Immediately wearable.
