The better looked after your purchase is, the longer it will last. Included here are some simple tips to try and ensure a longer and happier life for your clothes!
- Store heavy items liked knitted jumpers and dresses folded on a shelf or in a drawer
- Don´t use wire hangers! They could cause rust marks, or create holes in the shoulders of certain garments.
Delicate fabrics like silk should be stored folded over the hanger, or carefully folded and stored separately. Same applies for beaded dresses, or anything that is heavy enough to put undue strain on the shoulders. Turn hanging items inside out if you are concerned about them snagging on other clothing (chiffon and voile for example), and remember to do up any hooks and eyes or other fastenings for the same reason.
- If you are storing vintage items together in a pile, remember to put the heaviest ones at the bottom. It might sound obvious, but you don´t want to crush things, or cause permanent creases. Store items in acid free and unbleached tissue paper.
- Prolonged exposure to light causes colours to fade and fabrics to deteriorate. Do make sure you close the wardrobe door completely, or arrange it so when your garments are not in use they are tucked away somewhere nice and shady!
