Vintage wedding dress of the week resumes next week!

Hopefully this eye candy will make up for it. The gorgeous Lucy Stendall came over and took some very nice pictures of the shop and bridal salon. And brought us cake. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer I can highly recommend her!

vintage wedding dress of the week #3

Hello hello! Well, another week another dress.. and this time I am going to go all out and say I want more forties brides. I am not-so-secretly hoping for someone to book an appointment to find a dress for a very large, formal wedding where the length of the train is in proportion to the scale of things!

Here’s a very quick snap of a super deco one which I love – and it will count as a before pic as it is pre dry cleaning and steaming! But hopefully you will see the bare bones potential…

So this week I have had quite a few spring brides looking for typically fifties ballerina styled dresses; which of course is no problem as we have plenty! This is a lovely one for a petite bride..

I didn’t really want to sell this one as it’s sucha lovely piece, but the unfortunate thing with ballgowns is - unlike a 40’s jacket - you can’t really mix them into your everyday wardrobe too easily. All very well and good if you are storing them for a purpose.. but as my ball invitations seem to have dried up it’s time for it to go!

Hello! As there are so many lovely dresses hidden away in the bridal room that maybe it would be an idea to feature one a week on the blog.

This is one of the earlier ones we currently have in stock; a gorgeous Titanic era dress in a fine net with gauzy cotton embroidered trim. It also features delicate silk tassels to the rear of the sailor styled ‘collar’.

Approximately a modern size UK12..

and here we have ethel modelling an original 1920s dress, with embroidery in the style of Mackintosh’s ‘Glasgow Rose’…

Having just returned from 9 months of maternity leave myself, I am busily trying to update all of the categories on the website as I know some of them look rather forlorn! I’m currently sorting out maternity wear, and have just listed a few sneak previews like this late 40s maternity top – £25, UK10 (click to go to website listing)

I know for me it was odd when I was first pregnant, as I had only really worn vintage clothes for quite a long time and to suddenly have to wander into mothercare and wear the same things as everyone else again was quite depressing! Particularly if I had to get dressed up… So I made a conscious effort to collect any vintage maternity clothes that I saw on my travels, and that was eight years ago now so have managed to amass a fair selection of midecentury dresses and outfits.. even a fab 1950s cigarette pant evening suit which I will be listing shortly. And as I have my hands quite full with new baby now I am happy to let it all go as i don’t think I’ll be wearing any of it again myself!

vintage goodwood anyone? 1950s formula one summer set

Just listed with details over at www.tastyvintage.com, this fantastic ‘Sportaville model’ blouse and shorts set. It features 1950s formula one drivers, their cars, and f1 circuits of the 1950s . Too small for me, that didn’t stop me keeping it for a number of years.. but it’s another one that’s now escaped the collection!

Perfect for Vintage at Goodwood this August, or just for spicing up your local VSCC meeting!
